The San Benito County Arts Council announces a high school contest for Poetry Out Loud: National Recitation Contest. The competition, presented in partnership with San Benito High School and Aromas San Juan Unified School District, is part of a national program that encourages high school students to learn about great poetry –both classic and contemporary- through memorization, performance, and competition.
Since 2005, Poetry Out Loud has reached more than 3.3 million students and 50,000 teachers from 12,000 schools nationwide. This February, Poetry Out Loud will take place in San Benito County for the fourth time with support from the California Arts Council, the National Endowment for the Arts, and the Poetry Foundation.
The public is invited to attend the competition on Friday, February 8th at 6 PM at Aznar High School in San Juan Bautista to watch students from San Benito and Anzar high schools compete in the County Finals. The winner of this competition will advance to the California State Poetry Out Loud contest in Sacramento, March 10th & 11th. For more about Poetry Out Loud: National Recitation Contest click HERE.
