Sal is proud to have been born and raised in Hollister. Happily married for 43 years to Marty Duran whom he has known since the second grade, he and his wife have been blessed with three wonderful children. In 1980, Sal and his family moved to Southern California, to attend the Pasadena Art Center College of Art & Design, where he majored in Advertising Illustration. While there, he learned to work with a variety of media, but particularly enjoyed marker rendering and airbrushing.

In 1996, he moved back to Hollister, and is currently employed by the San Benito County Assessor’s Office as a Supervising Computer Mapping Specialist. In addition to the Arts Council, Sal is a member of the Knights of Columbus, the San Benito County Amateur Radio Association, the American Red Cross, and serves as the current Treasurer for the California Cadastral Mapping Association.

While the majority of his career has been spent working in the real property title and computer mapping fields, he still loves dabbling with paint and sketching when time permits. He most recently participated in a portrait painting class at the Art Space, which he credits for rekindling his love for art, and his hope is to be more involved with San Benito County’s art community.

Photo of Dylan Sandstrom
Dylan Sandstrom Board Member

My name is Dylan Sandstrom. I was raised here in Hollister and grew up from humble beginnings . As a teen I viewed the world from skateboard, tattoo and lowrider magazines which was the complete opposite of my rural reality so I created the world I wanted so badly to be apart of inside my sketchbooks. At the age of 18 I left Hollister to pursue a career in the custom Harley industry but picked up tattooing along the way. I now operate my own tattoo studio and have over a decade in the skin. Tattooing has taken me all over the country, most recently the greater San Jose area and Bay Area peninsula. Recently my wife and I decided it was time for us to move back home to Hollister and raise our sons the way we had been raised. The small town feel and sense of community has never been more important to me than it is now. I am very excited to be on the Board of Directors and look forward to bringing my years of art experience to San Benito County.
